PESSOAS QUE SE EXERCITAM GANHAM MAIORES SALÁRIOS

New Study Links Exercise To Higher Pay

A couple of days ago I did a post discussing the many benefits – to employees and management – of exercise during the workday, including reduced stress, increased productivity and improved collaboration. Timing is everything. Turns out a new study led by Vasilios Kosteas, a Cleveland State economics professor, indicates employees who exercise regularly also earn higher pay.
The study, published in the June issue of the Journal of Labor Research, shows that employees who exercise regularly earn approximately 9 percent more than those who do not.
From a personal standpoint as an employee who exercised regularly at work for over a quarter century, this research validates what I always intuitively felt: that exercise clearly improved my energy, focus, mood and motivation – making me a more valuable employee than I would have been without it.
And from a personal standpoint as a manager who supervised employees who exercised regularly at work for nearly a quarter of a century, the research is equally validating. Put simply, many of my most outstanding direct reports were regular exercisers, highly disciplined and effective both in the gym and the office.
While’s there’s no doubt more research to be done to explore and further establish causal connections, such exercise/wage research results should be of broad interest to business people: both to employees who want to advance their careers, and to CEOs who want to establish the kind of programs and cultures that enable them to attract and retain an engaged and motivated work force.
